From a recent trip to Finland. This mother and her yearling cubs are staring down another family that has come into the vicinity. Alert levels were high because a stranger male had just arrived into this parts and was upsetting the established hierarchy.

Wow, what amazing shot. You see intensity in her eyes. Must have been a fantastic experience .

Thanks. It was great and hell all at once. Sitting in a hide from 17:00 until 07:00 and getting maybe 3-4 hours sleep a day for 4 nights, that was rough. The bears were magic. Photographing them was a technical nightmare … not one for those new to camera & long lens control.

Super shot, our camera club recently had a talk by Joe Mallin (I think that was his name) and he was telling us about his time in Finland tracking bears! It was quite nerve wracking but the shots were amazing too!

Definitely worth the hardship IMO. Excellent capture. Well done

Amazing capture, just when they are very alert and intense.
Have seen a few running in the wild (from a distance, very far) when over in Scandinavia myself but never undertaken the sitting-in-the-hide challenge, pictures like this make me reconsider.
Amazing animal so once you get the settings, they do the rest, not one boring picture I’d say. :P

    Hi Aidan

Great shots. Been looking at various bear photography trips to Finland. Did you go on an organised trip or under your own steam??

    Thanks

You can book direct with the local operators that own the hides and probably save a few quid. However, organized tours take priority in the “private hides” and you can end up in the “public viewing hides” if you’re there by yourself. I went with a tour – local transport and accomodation sorted last time, and am doing the same again next year.
