Well it was taken with a 60mm macro lense… ;) We might need a Still Life forum on here someday :)
Natural light on the left from a window with the shadows reduced on the right with a white reflector for
those who are interested…lousyParticipantI like it Mark, nice sidelight and background.Looks good
I was trickin around with my macro this afternoon but finding it hard to get the hang of it.
I thought it would be easier.
Any tips most appreciated
Cheers
PatPippateeMemberReally nice shot Mark…I love the angle and conversion to BW…
at first I thought the stem was a little long but a rudimentary crop (a4 page on the screen!) shows the stem really adds to the simplicity of the image,
do you have a colour version?
jb7ParticipantThat looks good Mark-
perhaps just a little hot on the left,
but equally, perhaps not-Only you can tell how much you can enlarge this,
or rather, where the plane of sharp focus is-A still life forum could be a good idea-
though it is perhaps one of the hardest disciplines in which to produce original work-
Sometimes I wish I could do it,
but I tend to self censor before even setting up the camera-j
easParticipantirishshaguaParticipantI like this. Very arty. The stem looks a little fuzzy but thats probably just the resixing for internet. Keep these types of shots coming, very nice.
MarkKeymasterThanks for the feedback all. Much appreciated !.
irishshagua- The stem is out of focus, was deliberate at the time, but I think I’ll go
back and re-shoot and use a larger DOF next time there is some sun
coming in the window :).JB- The hot part, thankfully isn’t blown, but isn’t far off it at the same time. :)
Pippatee – I’ll have a look, although the ‘bud’ was pretty much colourless
lousyphoto – I don’t do much macro stuff, but have found that a tripod is generally a
necessity so that you can better control the point of focus, although I handheld this shot (too lazy to get out the tripod).
Handholding meant I did have to shoot 8-10 frames with a few shots not in focus enough. Not much advise there :)steelydanParticipantGreat detail in the bud shot Mark. And yes I agree we do need a Still life section here.Especially in the winer months when its pouring down. I tried a few painting by Light shots the other night (for Camera Club assignment) and went back to it ,for an idea I had for the Nature Finals next Sunday week.I tried it on Sensia 100 Slide film and the results were great. i will put one up here when the finals are over, as for the shot…well you will have to be in Dublin Zoo on the day to see it.
RobMemberLovely image Mark. Looks very sharp, and a nice
conversion too. Simple but strong composition. Would be
nice to see in print I reckon…Rob.
jessthespringerParticipantAgree with Rob, would be lovely to see this in print. Stunning picture Mark, very delicate.. and I really like the hot (or not so hot) spot too.
Sinead.
MarkKeymasterThanks very much John, Rob and Jess.
I’ll get it printed in the next few days and see how it works out.
I think we’ll definitely do a Still Life forum. As you say John, when its pouring down
outside it would give us something to shoot for. Plus I’m sure there would be some shots
uploaded which would give us all some inspiration.John: Will be good to see your Nature Final photo :)
Thanks again all.
Vanessa kennedyMemberMeoParticipantHi that’s a lovely shot, very well executed, lovely tones and light, very very nice indeed.
