PixelleMemberLovely photos, Richie. I was there in summer 2005, and your photos bropught back some memories. I’m glad you got to see the Parliament building,[image 1512] it is spectacular.
Just spotted the reflection on 3rd one above. Cool!
You sure got around in 2 days.steelydanParticipantNumber 3 for me has the more WOW factor.Love the night shot as a close second, all good though. Well done
jb7ParticipantHi richie, good pix but I don’t think you’re quite finished with the processing yet, or rather, If they were mine, then I wouldn’t be.
I presume you’ve removed some distortion? or is that lens dead straight at 17mm?
I’d love to see some 100% details off the first one-
I’ll have to admit to a sneaking desire to switch to Canon, and that is a lens I’d be interesterd in-Well done for traveling with a tripod (I presume), it shows real dedication-

carlParticipantPeteTheBlokeMemberterryMemberVery nice Richie I particularly like no.s 2 and 3 actually the shots are so nice I would really like to go there myself just to have a look around and get snap happy.
richiehatchMemberCheers guys… yeah as i said its a lovely place but certainly needs more time than I had…!
Joseph… Yeah they arn’t 100% finished but then again I aint 100% happy with the shots overall so probably wont go any further with them… well apart from the 3rd which I will revisit… have been playing around with different versions of it in colour… still not happy and will play with it more and repost maybe eventually..! As for distortion… no I havent removed anything… to be honest the 17-40 does suffer from barrell distortion at the wide end but its difficult to see in any of these shots.. the only wide lens i have that is absolutely free from distortion is the Sigma 12-24… absolutely zero barrell distortion.. tis a pity its not just a tadd sharper as its a mad lens to use on the 5D…! Here is a 100% crop of the top shot…
It was shot in jpeg and has had some sharpening applied… its funny i never noticed that airplane in the sky til now…!
As for bringing the tripod… yeah i got a lend of a little tiny jessops one.. it worked but the 5D with the 17-40 on it was very wobbly so I just bought a sturdier Hama version that does the job much better…!Anyway thats that… thanks for all the lovely comments…!
Richie
jb7ParticipantThanks for that Richie, I’m probably one step closer now… unfortunately-
I have seen examples on dpreview (on a 1dsMkII) that showed a lot of CA, but maybe it had something to do with the compression?
I’ve got the 12-24 myself, and have had it on a film nikon, gave me an attack of vertigo-
I’m almost glad of the 1.5 crop, I find it saves me from myself, if I had the extra, I’d use it, but its just too extrame.
Agree with you about the softness and the geometry though-I did a little edit on your first pic earlier, straightened it up a little, it had some stretching on the dome and the horses head, but could be worth it.
Thanks for putting the enlargement up, apart from 3 of my posts I think its the first I’ve seen here, would like to see more of it.
