    Very nice Jenny.

Interesting to hear that they’re not common. Back where I’m from originally (not Cork but Tipp!) they are still
pretty common. Apparently years ago (40s to 60s), my great-grandfather used to catch them by putting some sticky stuff on a branch (molasses i think) and breed them. Not sure why tbh, but sounds like they used to be very common at one point.

    Beautiful bird…

Nice shot Jenny. Good detail. I read recently about two guys being in court for trappping these & other finches for export. Apparently they have recently become a protected species in Ireland.

Nice photo and well spotted Jenny.
Seems they are becoming a rare site, I have only seen 2 in the last 7 years and these were not even at the many feeders I put out……./Mikka

Thanks Miki and Mikka, when I was a youngster they were plentiful but I can count the
number of times I have spotted them on one hand in the last ten years, so an added
treat to see one let alone being able to get a picture of one. I know where they are but
it is still a rare sighting for me.
