Burnt out horse truck, Kildare area

    Hi folks :sick

I seen this on my travels. Looks to be a horse transporter truck. It had an English registration plate. I took the picture from a moving car on the motorway. I would have wanted to take the picture from a different angle and catch some of the scenery that was to one side of the truck but decided not to… although I was very tempted

    Hope you like it ;)

It looks very blue James, if you played with the colour sliders a bit to bring back
the greys I think it would look better, ideally it would have been better to stop
and compose the shot a bit better, but maybe not on the motorway

    Cheers Jenny ;)

I showed the picture to someone here who doesn’t know much about photography and the fist thing they said was ”Why is it so blue?”

I did it last night with Lightroom and liked the effect it had on the picture. I will have another go at it and see what I can do with the blueness.

Normally what I do is when I take a picture is to avoid cropping it and just go through different effects and settings with Lightroom. I also have Photoshop CS3 but only really use it for cropping or straightening a picture. I must find time to look at more online tutorials and see how I can maximize the use of the software I have.

I was also thinking of converting the picture to black and white and leaving the motorway line yellow. But firstly I don’t know how to do it and secondly it is something that is seen often (in my opinion) and it might not appeal to many people because of that reason.

Easily fixed in Lightroom, go to the colours and select the blue then
simply move the saturation slider to the left a little, dont take it all out
    just a bit.

    Here is the original picture:

A less ‘bluey’ version with Lightroom:

looking at them, the original version seems to be a little dark around the truck, and a little flat. The first shot almost has a slightly retro feel to it, that and the last version of the shot look a lot better, and there is more detail in the truck.

Cheers Nigel. All thanks to Jenny ;) Very happy with the final result.

the last one it looks better. for me the shot is not warm enough so in lightroom i would increase the highlights and the shadows at around 37 in colour and maybe 15-20 in strength. check out adobe tv, they have lots of tutorials about lightroom and photoshop including the selective colour for the yellow line and are all free.

Thanks for the tips Voicu

I will check out Adobe TV later on.

I can manage to increase the highlights and shadows to 37 but I am unsure how to increase their strength to 15-20. I had a go at adjusting the tone curve see the picture below but doesn’t seem to work the way I want it to.

sorry james, my mistake. i should have said that i’m talking about the highlights and shadows in “split toning”. there is where you can add a sense of “cold” or “warm” look to your photo. tone curve does nothing but increase the contrast in a more subtle or dramatic way.
