Well spotted. Colours are lovely and the subject is nice and sharp overall except for the lower wingtip. Did you shoot this at an angle?
I always find it is very hard to get close and maintain an even plane when shooting Butterflies or Moths with fully spread wings, just as you have it all in focus they decide to hop off to the next flower. For some odd reason I also find it hard to view these type of shot unless the wings are in a horizontal orientation, I find myself tilting my head, but then I have an odd view of things most of the time

Thanks for your comments Mikka. I had a little trouble trying to focus on this as the wings kept moving from being spread out to being upright. The plant was on a slight slope and I think that helped although I had to handhold as they don’t stay around long enough to set up a tripod. As for tilting your head, My whole body was contorted trying to get a good angle. :D

Thats funny, I just found myself tilting my head looking at this without realising until I read Mikka’s comment. (For me that doesnt take away from the shot). Great capture with nice shallow dof.

Thanks Alessia. Yes these butterflies have fantastic colours. Pity they are scarce nowadays.
