Buying gear – NY or Bangkok?

Planning a trip to oz, and am going to fly out via bangkok and home via new york (i think!)
Anyone know where is cheapest for camera gear? I know B&H and Adorama in NY have great prices, but have no idea wheere is good / cheap in Bangkok.
Any ideas?
Anywhere else good for camera gear?
Singapore?
India?

Putting it simply to you….I’d trust what you already know and get it in B+H. If you have the mindset that you’ll save money in New York anyway….would mean that you could take more photos with that spare time now in Bangkok!!!!

Warrenty is also something you should consider and think carefully about. If it fails after you take it home and you cant have it repaired here would it still have been bought at the “right price”. Its just a thought.

Fair point, but would either look at insurance claim, or buying international warranty to cover it. Thanks for pointing it out though – not something I’d given much thought tio…

You can ger an international Mack warranty with B&H which is, apparently, more comprehensive than even the Canon one.
Think practicalities. If you want to use your new gear Down Under get it in Bangkok but if you don’t want to carry it around for your entire trip, get it in NY.

To be honest – neither really bother me. I just wanna make sure I get the best deal.

Not sure about Bangkok but I lived in NY for 10 yrs and bought most of my stuff there in B&H, still do, I get the international warranty. If you know anyone in another state – maybe New Jersey (just across the river) and have it shipped there, you can save 8 1/4% sales tax, just order in plenty of time. Also don’t forget they are closed on Satuday’s and open on sunday’s (jewish).
June.I’m heading to Bankok for a couple of weeks and will be looking for some good value over there However my initial information is that photographic equipment is quite expensive over there and no real bargains to be had.

PCLooking at websites over there, it’s definately cheaper than Ireland or the UK!
