Buying new gear….

After much time on the internet, I’ve come to the conclusion that the two places that I’ve found to be of good prices are
Kea off Ebay…
http://myworld.ebay.ie/kea-photo/and Calumet up in Belfast..
http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk/But has anyone bought anything through Kea before? I see that they will label goods as “gifts with no commercial value” so it isn’t hit by VAT. And talking of VAT is there anyone that can state as to whether if I give my VAT number to Calumet when buying goods, will I be hit by VAT because I heard from one photographer in Dublin (quote) ” in terms of VAT I think you can give them your VAT no and then they won’t charge you cos it’s within EU”????
It does state here though…
http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs…s/index_en.htm
“VAT on goods moving between Member States
No frontier controls exist between Member States and therefore VAT on goods traded between EU Member States is not collected at the internal frontier between tax jurisdictions.
Goods supplied between taxable persons (or VAT registered traders) are exempted with a right to deduct the input VAT (zero-rated) on despatch if they are sent to another Member States to a person who can give his VAT number in another Member State. This is known as an “intra-Community supply”. The VAT number can be checked using the VAT Information Exchange System (VIES).
The VAT due on the transaction is payable on acquisition of the goods by the taxable customer in the Member State where the goods arrive. This is known as “intra-Community acquisition”. The customer accounts for any VAT due in his normal VAT return at the rate in force in the country of destination. “
Thanks in advance
ben4130ParticipantIve odered from kea before, got my stuff quick and no VAT. A friend of mine deals with them alot. I think if you call the guy up, or start an email conversation and get chatting depending on how much you are buying you may be able to work out a deal even.
As far as i know the guy you are looking for in kea is alfred or albert or something.
ossie13ParticipantHave used Albert at Kea twice, great service and communication!!
Cheers Steve
KWBarbsParticipantI haven’t used either of these, but something to consider is:
Kerso – he is a UK based retalier, on eBay, but if you mail him at 2kersogmail.com he usually gives a discount. Great reliable UK service.
onestopdigital– they are HK, but give guarentees on UK VAT refunds and seem to have a very good reputation.
