Buying Raw Chemicals in Dublin

I’m making some bleaches for use in the darkroom and looking for chemicals like

    Potassium dichromate
    Sulphuric acid
    Sodium chloride

    etc etc.

Mostly small quantities too. Prefer to buy in Ireland and avoid hazmat problems.

    Any idea folks???

    Well, SuperValu for the salt-
but I thought you evaporated your own seawater?

You could ask a pharmaceutical supplier for information-
I used to be able to get some raw chemicals here a long time ago,
but I think times have changed-

Somebody there might be able to point you in the right direction though…

I think a pharmacy is probably a good place to start alright, but like jb7 has said, times have changed and it’s difficult to get raw chemicals without arousing suspicion (are you a terrorist, or do you plan to poison someone or take your own life or are you running a a home based illicit drugs factory  ). Even getting something as simple as isopropanol has resulted in me being questioned by the senior person in charge (usually the pharmacist) on occasion :(

Try asking the Chemistry Departments at a university, they usually have their suppliers for tools and materials. It’s true that sourcing anything more dangerous than ethanol is pretty hard nowadays… Thanks god, ethanol is still legal.

    I found these with google:

    sigma-aldrich?

You should ask in Gunn’s on Camden street – they are sooo nice in there and it’s like the only place I know of that still specialises in film photography, I’ve moved back to Northern Ireland now and I hafta buy everything on line and it costs a fortune cos no one is manufacturing anything “film” now!
i remember going to buy multigrade paper in jessops on grafton and it was priced at 65euro – went to gunns – 27euro!
And John Gunn and all the family are so nice – they love to give help and advice and might know the best places to go!
