B&W Buffalo Does it work

Im trying to capture an old style of nature photography similar to old colonial shots often seen in African game lodges. Please let me know how you’d change it. Feel free to photoshop
I think it works, because of the light background, it stands out from the background good. If the b/g was darker I dont think it would be as successful.
I fiddled about with different b+w conversions, but yours looked as good as any of them.
I love the DoF you’ve achieved too.
I think your version works well. By the way I hate those shots where you see scores of dead lions or tigers laid out in front of colonial gentlemen as trophies.
Really nice conversion. Darker than I would have done, but it works really well.
Just inspired me to try something similar this weekend on an elephant shot I have.
