Camera Armour/protection

breandainParticipant
This is a similar post to Azaphods about his experience at the beach but does anybody know a good shop in Dublin that deals in protective coverings for cameras and lenses???
I am thinking of some kind of plastic/material covering for the camera or lense that is designed to shield it from the rain but that doesn’t intrude on using the camera; really want to get something as the rain season approaches fast! :( :x :(MarkKeymasterI think that Paddy Barker (ie BarkerPhotographic on the site) do rain protection gear.
They also post out too without delay. Worth checking with him.breandainParticipantThanks for the reference Mark, I just checked it out and the rain covers are certainly the thing I was looking for; will definitely consider getting a few. :D
MartinParticipantBermingham cameras on the keys do the rain cover (about 90 euro or so i think). I went looking for them a few weeks ago. Don’t buy one on line without trying in on in a camera shop. Reason being is that when i went in to try them on the camera they had two sizes. Large and small. The large one fitted my Nikon 70-200 2.8vr fine but was to big then for the Tokina 12-24f4. The small one then was to small for the 70-200 but fitted the 12-24 fine. I ended up not buying one as i need to find a medium type size. Want to get one through as my camera got soaking wet at the Puck Fair last month and on other occasions.

alzaphodParticipantI gather a lot of people use clear plastic bags for this, place it over the camera and put an elastic around the lens.
I have one in my kit bag since my recent disaster.
AlanbreandainParticipantMartin, I’ll have a look for that shop on the quays on my lunch tomorrow. I think I’d go for the larger size as it would suit my Sigma 70 – 300 and 50 – 500(well that one may be a stretch!) which I want to use for sports in the next few months. Thanks again for the name reference :D
As regards to plastic bags Alan, I have thought about that but wanted to do my bit for the environment and come up with something more permanent  :wink:alzaphodParticipantGood on ya Breandain, I shouldnt use em myself, eco conscious hippy wannabe that I am. Let us know how you get on with the more permanent idea, if it works I might be tempted to invest..

About 80 meters east of O’Connell bridge on the south side of the river

breandainParticipantYeah, I think I know the area you’re referring to; its the little camera shop near Hawkin Street and near the small monument to the policeman who died in the sewer there about 150 years ago…will let you know how I get on; thanks again lads :)
