    Morning Everyone,

I may be wrong but i would guess many of you with expensive equipment have it insured and now that i have just received my first DSLR and want to insure it im wondering if anyone knows a good company that i can insure my camera for theft/damage etc as i will be taking it with me in a few weeks travelling to china and new zealand.

    Thanks,

    Liam

if you are not using it for business then you can more than likely get it covered on your house insurance

if you earn any money from it, you need to get a seperate policy

i have one from europlan in stephens green

Thanks for that Steve. I will look into the cover from them. It would be a shame not to have cover and have something happen.

    Thanks again,

    Liam

Steve is correct. Most people on the site are automatically covered by their house contents insurance.

Do a quick search on the site here as I’m sure it was discussed at length sometime last year.

the problem is, though that people make that assumption, that they are cover, when in fact i fthey earn any money from the kit, chances are their insurance company wont cover them with their domestic policy

Even if you rent a place, you should get yourself contents insurance for where you are. Otherwise you have no cover if the place was ever burgled.

My kit is on my home insurance. But, I have considered getting specialised insurance. Any advice/recommendations? I haven’t made a cent yet from my photography, but that doesn’t hinder my ambition. :D

    Steve,
100% correct. If you earm money from your camera ….. even if only a hobby, domestic insurance will not cover.
