Looking to buy a dslr for my mother who is retiring and has said she will do a photography course. she currently has a compact digital and a 20 yr old pentax film slr which she still uses occasionally. while she is not exactly a techie – she can text on a mobile and would be willing to learn the basic features of a dslr. her phptpgraphy interests would be mainly landscapes, buildings, flowers, etc., would the canon 1000d with kit lens be user friendly and a good long term ownership prospect as she probablly wont change it for years, or any alternatives for that matter. also, can anyone recommend a pphptography course in the waterford city area. thanks.
miki gParticipantI am far from being technically minded but I found that the Canon range is easy to get used to. My last camera was a Pentax ME super from the ’80’s. Haven’t used a camera since then up to a few months ago and had no trouble adjusting to Canon. I think WIT or the VEC adult education centre both do photography courses.
brownieParticipantI have some gear that you might be interested in and I am based in Waterford.
Send me a PM because I have tried 3 times this morning to PM you but I keep
getting an error message.Noel Browne.

Yes and yes. The 1000D is a fine camera for it’s price. As well as:
– An ability to shoot RAW and high quality Jpeg
– A choice of sRGB or Adobe RGB
– Automatic Exposure Bracketing
– Depth of Field Preview
– Mirror Lock Up
– 7 focus pointsIt also comes with a capable RAW processor (Digital Photo Professional) for those that don’t have Photoshop/Elements. I honestly think the 1000D is a great package that a newbie SLR user can grow into over the years,

Both PC World and Argos are qualifying dealers for the free training. PC World customers need to make sure they get a Voucher Registration Card and Argos customers must use their collection number,
