There have been some queries on PI in the past, and I am hoping for some up to date feedback. :)brendancullenParticipantHi – If it looks too good to be true – it is.

yets another ‘grey importer’ – meaning they take your money today – and perhaps in a months time you’ll get one shipped in from Hong Kong.
This is an individual sitting in his bedroom ‘trading’. No secure certificate on the browser – meaning ‘shadey’
Their address is a PO box.
All fine to save you 10% – until there is a malfunction. EU manafacturers won’t touch it – and you’ll have to send it back to HK.
Haggle with an irish supplier – i did – and they nearly matched the price.

MarkKeymastermarkclehaneParticipantHi Pixelle,
I’m currently looking to get a new lens and have spent the last few days browsing countless websites and after doing a fair bit of researching on these guys I’d advise your friend NOT to touch them. Many many bad reviews on lots of different review boards. I’ve often taken risks when buying online but this one is just too dodgy altogether. Another one that’s too good to be true is Simply Electronics.
In the end I’ll probably opt for http://www.parkcameras.com/ in the UK or maybe Warehouse Express, but they seem to charge a bit over the odds for delivery – £35stg as opposed to £8.99 with Park.
If your friend is happy to buy on EBay she could look at a shop called Foto Tip – they’re based in Poland but I had my flashgun delivered inside a week and about €25 less than anywhere else I looked. Not sure what their selection of camera’s is like though.
Hope this helps
MarkPadraigParticipantHi Pixelle,
I bought a Canon EF-s 55-250 and a 430ex2 Flash from them last year on two separate occasions. No problems. The only thing I didn’t like was that the money was charged to my card straight away even though the lens was out of stock. I phoned and they promised the lens within two weeks. It arrived, with no problems. They say that they offer two years warranty themselves. I haven’t needed it so far. I was thinking of buying another lens from them this year. Emailed them about it but they didn’t respond, so i didn’t bother.PhotoeyeMemberNothing wrong with Simply Electronics, I just received my Canon 7D from them this morning. Ordered it last Wednesday (6 workings days as promised). I have used them in the past with issue and few of my friends have used them. There is alot of bad press on the net but don’t believe everything you read.
jessthespringerParticipantI bought a Panasonic p&s from CameraBox a few years ago. FX30 or FX33, something like that anyway. Like the others are saying, they took the money from my card straight away, but them got an email saying they were “out of stock” stock was shown as ‘plentiful’ on their web page.
Tried ringing them to find out when it would be in stock, but it took 4 days for them to answer the phone. It did arrive within the week, but was poorly packed and the box was a bit battered. The camera itself was fine, but it was a US plug, (which put me off a bit, I think they claim somewhere all their stock is UK stock).
I didn’t like the look of the pictures from it, over sharp and strange colour fringing. If I’d bought it here, say Jessops or somewhere, I could have taken it back and changed it to something else, but it just turned out to be too much hassle to send it back to CameraBox.I did eventually sell it, but the whole thing cost me money. I wouldn’t shop there again.
