Can you let me know if my new style is working?

Hi Folks,
Recently i’ve been lacking motivation with regards to the taking photographs and processing them afterwards. I’ve recently tried to curb this deficit by changing my processing style and reworking a few shots. Basically what i want to know is if the style suits the type of photo that i’m taking and also indeed if you are partial to the photograph at all. These photographs are all wildlife ones as well it is all i’m really interested in shooting. I’d really appreciate if people could let me know if i’m heading in the right direction. Thanks in advance if anyone decides to help. Here’s the line up.
Hi Daniel. I’m into nature photography too as it’s very challenging. Firstly, that is an excellent set. I would be delighted to have taken any of those shots. I think you’re onto a winner. Keep it up and well done.
Yes its a nice set. Not sure what processing you have changed too but it does seem a bit excessive on the contrast esp on 3 and 4
Tell us more on what way you process.

It is very challenging isn’t it. Thanks for the compliment. Glad to know it’s liked anyway.Is there any criticism you could give so as to help me improve?

Thank for the C&C. I’ve actually changed my processing in the sense that I switched from photoshop to lightroom. I found in photoshop it was turning photos more into graphics than anything.
The style i use in lightroom i will admit i prefer to bump up the contrast but i’m doing so because looking through the some of my favourite wildlife shots i’ve seen the contrast has been high on them. The contrast is more of a personal thing. With regard to the rest of the processing, i have a preset designed to bump up the vivality of colours and i usually stick to it, it’s one i made. I like vibrance but a natural vibrance at that i used to have a habit of oversaturating in photoshop which was ruining my photos so i toned it down when i changed to lightroom and i began to think that the colours were jumping out a bit more but this time for the right reasons and not because they look unnatural.
At the risk of being slated what are your thoughts Dee?
On #2 and #3 I would try to show the whole bird. #3 maybe not so much though. Otherwise I think they are great. As for processing, I’m no expert, so I think I’ll leave that to someone more knowlegable.

I agree with you on number 2 all right:) That is my own fault i should have been ready for him. :)

I’m not a fan of the high contrast look although it does suit the gull photo. I try to keep the processing to a minimum and go for the most natural look. At the end of the day though, its all down to personal preference. As for the shots themselves I’d be well proud of themPadraig wrote:

first of all, you’re from carlow, me too so well done on that :P
I do try to process just a little but the weird lighting caused by the bright weather has hazed the original photographs.
