All the comments on this thread represent very sound advice but why not consider the EOS 1Ds MkI. There is one for sale in the UK on the EOS Forum Classifieds. It sounds like a bargain to me. I have bought a lens from the guy who is selling it – no problems.

I sold one on eBay for ?1200 just before Christmas. This one sounds like a steal. The 5d and 40D are great cameras with great image quality but the 1 series are built like tanks. I dropped one from five feet on a tiled floor; just a minute scuff on the body covering the pentaprism!!
