Well it won’t be on the Canon stand as they are not there. Along with Olympus and Kodak. What ever is going on.

Canon will be at Photo Fest though.

I don’t know whether to be disappointed or relieved that the 1Ds III was not announced.

Probably relieved – I just dropped 5k on a Z3100 printer, need to let my bank account repair itself a bit before I go upgrading the camera.

    =)

Will it take better pictures or will the person holding it be able to take better pictures with it.
The only drawback of this camera is the person holding it.

It would be wasted on me.

Some price info starting to appear. I’m basing this on ?->$ of 1.31

    USA: $3999 (rumoured)
    UK: $5800 (seen advertised)
    Germany: $5650 (seen advertised)
    Rip off Republic: $6500 (guessing)

As for “will it take better photos?”. It depends.
    – Do you know what you’re doing?
    – Have you learned how to use it?
    – Are you shooting moving subjects or landscapes?

The Digic III processor promises to take better quality captures but that does not equate to better quality pictures.

I’m having some difficulty trying to figure out who Canon are aiming this at, hence my rather flippant remark of “Will it take better photo’s?” I was hoping to see a replacement for the EOS 1Ds MkII which would include the noise handling properties of the EOS 5D. Now that would be a camera I would like to get my hands on! I’m not so sure that the ID MkIII is going to sell in such big numbers to sports, press or wildlife shooters. Surely the Id MkII already gives them everything they need; I can’t see how they could justify an upgrade.

Well, I can for once say that I’m happily not intending to – or wishing I could – buy one but the white paper will make some great reading. Not sure if it’s bedtime reading… will probably be more hyper afterwards  ! SIXTY THREE pages…flip.

    Thanks for the link Carl.

You should check out POTN. Loads of 1D mk IIN owners drooling over this. Pro’s tend to carry two bodies. Most of them on their are talking about selling the current backups (often 20D’s) and buying this as their primaries. Faster AF is a big attraction to them and surprisingly, the pro sports/journalist shooters are interested in the live view. Plus there’s loads of us who got into DSLR in the last few years who were thinking about upgrading.

There’ll be a mk III S eventually. There’s rumours of a 40D and a 5D mk II on the way too. There’s a round of announcements going on with dealers today and PMA in Vegas in a couple fo weeks where big announcemtns are expected.
