Canon 1D Mark III
-
joe_elwayParticipant
As rumoured, deliveries have started in Europe and USA in the last 2 days. Some folks have been posting images on one of the Canon forums. ISO performance is WOW!!!!!

Apparently 1/2 stop better than the 5D. Looks like we just about have a new ISO king, until the 1DSmkIII comes out anyway!
joe_elwayParticipantI was looking at some samples posted by one of the lucky buggers in the USA who got one last week. The ISO 800 shots were way better than those on the 5D. 5D has a great rep for noise control. In fact, the mk III at 800 looked better than 200 on my 350D.
joe_elwayParticipantOne of the guys on POTN shot this at ISO 3200 on a mk III with a 500mm and a 2x TCon: http://www.allensvisions.com/pics/VIS30631_nn.jpg He did some cropping, noise ninja and sharpening.
He’s got another unprocessed one here: http://www.allensvisions.com/pics/VIS30636.JPG. It looks just slightly worse than ISO 800 on my 350D.
joe_elwayParticipantWhat does 10 frames per second sound like?
mervifwdcParticipantctwomeyParticipantHi all,
Sorry to break a thousand hearts, but I picked up my Mark III today :-)

ConorConor,
Keep a good hold to it at the next meeting or Aidan will disappear out the door with it if he hasnt got one by then!
joe_elwayParticipantI’ll be stopping at B&Q on the way down next Wednesday. I figure at the rate things are going (GRRR!) that I’ll be needing a crowbar.
ThorstenMemberThe more I read about the EOS 1D MkIII, the more I’m tempted to get one myself! Notes from Canon headquarters is an interesting article by Rob Galbraith in which he also discusses the cameras Highlight Tone Priority feature (with sample images). There are other interesting snippets relating to a new file format and more.
carlParticipantLooks like a lot of people are reporting 00 and 01 error messages on their new MKiii cameras.
Here is one person from Kildare (fairly pi**ed off)
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=23461509Me thinks Canon rushed it, given their initial delay over AF problems.
Such are the risks of being the early guinea pigs.Conor, I hope yours is hunky dory! What are your initial impressions?

ConorPhew I’m glad not to be one of the thousand but good luck with the new mk3 I know you’ve been counting down the days. Enjoy
FintanParticipantIs there trouble in paradise? AF Problems?

ctwomeyParticipantFintan,
I have been using mine for three weeks now and I haven’t had any problems. However I don’t have and never owned a 1D Mark II(N) to compare it against. All I have is a 30D and the auto focus on the Mark III is years ahead of it. The number of keepers over the 30D is huge. The most difficult part is using the 30D after using the Mark III because the viewfinder is so much brighter and more comfortable to use.
Regards,
Conor
