truth? who knows?
but I have friends in Italy that paid for this camera months ago, and still no sign……ThorstenMemberIf it’s true, then (a) it will appear on Rob Galbraith’s site pretty soon and (b) it’s going to hurt their share price. Of course it could simply be a malicious rumour designed to discredit Canon and take some of the wind out of their sails.
GizzoParticipantof course could just be a rumor. the real thing is that at the moment, going on the moon with a bycicle is easier than buying a mkIII…..
and the other thing is that the problems appear with the long guns (500-600 mm). probably who uses more “human” lenses, does not notice that problem.
what really surprises me is that who spots the problems (as Rob did) normally gives a very accurate description of what’s going on.
who is satisfied normally says: “this camera is perfect, you’re just envyous!”anyway, a new firmware version is to be announced soon… let’s see…
ThorstenMemberI do believe a second FW version was released yesterday, (ver. 1.1.0). That’s two releases in a very short time (v. 1.0.9) was released about 2 weeks ago.)
Sure there will be some who find no fault with the camera, simply because of the way they use it and others who will have extreme faults with the camera because of the way they use it. No purpose is served in bashing either user.
GizzoParticipantwell…. in my opinion canon did something incorrect.
ok, maybe I will buy the mkIII to use that maximum at 200mm. so no problems, and I will say that this is a wonderful camera, worth every cent of the 4000 euro I paid.
but what about going with super tele? if it’s not working properly, it’s like having a brand-new maserati GT (have a look ;) ) and saying that is the best car, even if just use it to go shopping in tesco.. what about when i push it to the limit?? I expect that I’ll have a superior handling and grip and so on, right?
people that really need the mkIII are looking for the best AF in the world. reading on “The Digital Picture” sentencies like this: “If you must have higher hit rates in these conditions, you should probably keep a Canon EOS 1D Mark II N in your kit until Canon works out this issue” puzzle me…hope I write in an understandable way. I don’t want to hurt anyone.
mervifwdcParticipantWell, I just collected mine yesterday. I’ve not had moving subjects in bright light to try it on yet, but it shot 24 shots in high speed of a stationary rabbit, all in focus with a 300/2.8 with 2x converter.
Hope to use it in anger over the weekend, and will report back then.

mervifwdcParticipantHi,
Definitly can say I’m happy :-)
I took a shot of a bird this morning at the feeder outside the kitchen. Picture was taken through an open window. The The first image has no processing adjustments at all.
The camera metered it way dark (to my eye), so in processing I upped it by over a stop (shot raw, new JPG produced). also, a more pleasing crop.
Then for kicks, I did a 100% crop to see what it was really like:
I know it’s not the best shot in the world, and I will re do this test once I get used to the cameras metering and get the initial metering a bit more accurate.
What’s impressive about the shot is that it was taken at ISO 1600.
Merv.
GizzoParticipantrock&roll Merv!!!!
can’t wait for more test! happy shooting! (and if you want to reduce little bit the price on the mkII… ;) )take care.
jb7ParticipantThat does look amazing-
I think I’d prefer the colour left closer to the original though-
