Canon 40D ??
-
KenwoodParticipant
Hi all
I am considering buying a new Canon camera – body only. I have looked at the 40D as a replacement for my 2year old 350D.
I shoot sport and landscapes mainly and have the 70-200mm f2.8, 17-40mm f4.0 and the 50mm f1.8 as my main lenses. Is the 40D the best camera money can buy for the likes of an amateur photographer.

PodgeMemberThere’s also the 450D – http://www.dpnotes.com/canon-40d-vs-canon-450d-digital-rebel-xsi/
guthrijParticipantGiven the Canon glass that you already own, I would say that the 40D would be your best bet. It is really a budget 1D MkIII.
DuchovnyParticipantI used a 350D for about 3 years, and this year i bought the 40D and i would say that the 40D is the best the money can buy at the moment.
The 450D i would say is the same range as the 350D with a few minor details, in the other hand the body construction of the 40D is very very good :)
KenwoodParticipantThanks folks for the replies – all appreciated
Will do some more research on a good place to purchase…….

johnc24ParticipantHi kenwood
im in the market for a 40D also.
Have you got your one yet.
Also just to throw in for your interest. The 40D in Ireland is about what…1000-1200 Euro. Can be got from B&H for $939 = €594….so its a no brainer for me.. I’ll take the risk with customs I think. **This is for the BODY ONLY*** A bit more with the lens but still a massive saving
Regards
JohnCapricorn1ParticipantAnything coming from the states will almost definitely get taxed. The americans are goody two-shoes when it comes to declaring the value of goods on custom slips.
I got mine from this guy—> stores.ebay.ie/shueido
here’s a direct link to the 40d body for roughly 590eu
I received mine in about 6 days with no tax. just be sure to ask him to declare a low value.
brownieParticipantGot a 40D from http://stores.ebay.ie/SHUEIDO yesterday,only
paid €598 for it, delivered by An Post, no extra charges…really
quick delivery…about 6 days..works perfectely.Thomas TylerMemberI have purchased a Canon 40 D recently from Band H it cost me 150 Euro on arrival import duty , which I paid to the delivery service on delivery. I do know a person who purchased Canon 17-40 mm 1.4 L zoom lense for $700 from the same dealer and had it delivered to his brother in the states. The brother sent it on to Ireland for $23 postage and NO DUTY on delivery. Do you know anyone in States. Way to go Brother.
PS. as far as I know there is no duty charged on gear valued under $200 ?Regards Thomas

There is no Import Duty on digital camera bodies in Ireland, only VAT at 21%.
Thomas TylerMemberQuarehawk65MemberI bought the 40D/17-85 kit in Stansted Airport- Dixons Tax Free back in May. Worked out at €935.11. Got the €200 cashback, leaving the cost at €735.11.
It was €1400 or so in the shops here at the time……
dan.browneParticipantI am back and forward to the states every week or at least every two weeks. So I will be getting my new 40D soon. But now that they have released the 50D I wonder if it worth waiting on for? I would love to get all you’re things in the states for you guys but I think I would be inundated with requests LOL
KenwoodParticipantJust got my 40D via Shutter Bug on this site.
A week delivery and no complaints.
On charge now so will post some notes when I give it a go.

DALYA00ParticipantHi Kenwood – I bought a Canon 40D in Barcelona, in July while I was on hols. I know that I would have got it cheaper elsewhere but I wanted it there and then. I paid €1000 for the body only. I had a few lenses from my Canon 300D and I had also purchased an EF 50mm f1.4 USM before going on hols. I am just a beginner but I find that the Canon 40D is a fantastic piece of equipment. It is very user friendly and I took over 600 photos in Barcelona. My aim now is to
“make the camera talk”.
7dayshop.com is a fantastic website for cameras, lenses, compact flash cards batteries, polarisers etc. and the site is very reliable. Good Luck, Alice
