Canon 40D vs 550d physical size

    Hi,

Probably a dumb question for you guys here, but I was wondering if it feels like a significant size difference between the Canon 40D and 550D? I bought a 40D about two years ago and for a few reasons I haven’t really got to use it. Really because I’d be an opportunistic shot taker and what with work etc. and if I’m out and about the kids are with me so time and keeping paws off it have kept it in the wardrobe :(
One other thing that I found is that the camera feels quite big in my hands, a bit unwieldy. So, would it be worth my while going for a 550D instead or moving back to a bridge type camera like a Canon G11 or a fancy pants Sony NEX5? I suppose I don’t necessarily want to feel like I’m carrying around a camera :)

As a follow up to that question, is there anywhere in Dublin that would take a 40D as trade in against something, or alternatively would it move if I put it for sale here?

    Cheers,

I don’t have a 550D but I do have a 400D and there’s a big difference between the that and the 40D. That said, you still know your carrying a camera when your out with the 400D. If it was me I would go for a good pocket size P+S and at least you could have it with you at all times for snapping the young ones.
With regard to a trade-in, I would imagine any good camera shop would accept a trade-in but you would probably be better off selling your own camera and using the cash for a new one. The likes of Argos and PC world have good deals from time to time but would accept trade-ins.

    Buy a Leica :D

The 40D which I have too is bigger, but it is the weight that makes the difference – it has a magnesium body which makes it much heavier than a plastic 450D.
