I had a quick play with a mates 50D lastnight. I have a 40D myself, and the jump is bigger than i thought it would be
The image quality is a very big improvement from what i could see. I shot at 1600 iso and got very decent images, with my 40d at that iso i rarely get decent images
Well I’ve recently upgraded from the D80 to the D300..which I think is a pretty respectable upgrade. I was not in the least interested in the D90…and I have no need for full frame photography at this point. I reckon I’ll get 2..max 3 years before I think about upgrading again.
What I get for my upgrade is a Pro quality body with a good degree of weather proofing…a brilliant 3″ screen and 100% viewfinder and a faster (much) shutter speed and more importantly to me at this point..a far better high iso performance.
I don’t even think about the Megapixel race..and I doubt most serious amateurs do either.
Now as long as Nikon don’t go releasing the Nikon D400/500 in the next year or two…It’s better lenses all the way….Yeee Haaar!!
I still want one of those fake lens coffee mugs though…*droool*
Anyone with a 50D know about the f/2.8 centre AF point thing? The blurb says that the centre point is f/2.8 which suggests that focusing using the others won’t be? I have a couple of 2.8 lenses and this could be a deal breaker for this camera, for me.
