Hello all
I wondering if anyone can tell me about their experiences with image quality (particulalrly sharpness) and build quality on these lens.
Slan
carlParticipantHere is a shot i took with the Canon 50mm f1.8 mkii plus kenko 1.4x extender at f2.2 so you can see its reasonably sharp even with the extender. The only thing i dont like about this lens is the quality of the bokeh (it only has 5 blade iris). Build quality is plastic but for the price you cant argue!

I’m using Firefox right now and get the following Your client does not have permission to get URL /?imgmax=512 from this server. But that may be because I’ve switched my firewall to stealth mode.

Bugger, I’ll have to look into that! Thanks for heads up!

Ok, hopefully this should work!
carlParticipanthere is another from the thrifty fifty but without the 1.4x extender:

Note the dodgy pentagonal bokeh highlights!
SteveFEMemberThe 50mm f1.8 indeed has lousy bokeh if the background contains bright point lights, but it can actually be very pleasant if the background lighting is diffused:
It’s capable of being as sharp as you can focus it, specially stopped down a bit. The AF is rubbish but you can’t expect much from a sub-?100 lens in that dept, particularly when it’s obvious that every cent of that’s in the glass and none in the body or electronics. I’ve used it a lot for low light work but generally have to manual focus as the AF gets very hunty and annoying. One reason my next 50 will be an old MF Zuiko f1.4 ;) A ?30 Chinese brass adaptor just gave me access to three old lenses from my OM10 that all work beautifully.
griangrafParticipantCheers, Carl & Steve very useful. I have been using a 17-85mm IS EF-S on this range with mixed results. Hence I am looking for a beter performer in this range, either a prime or zoom.
BTW Steve how would you rate the 17-40mm L.
