Canon 7d Problem

Hi, I hope I am posting in the right area of the forum. I am looking for some advice. I have been using a Canon 7d for the past year and a half. Over the past few months I have found that when I take a burst of photographs, approximately every second one is blurry/hazy. I thought it may have been the crappy kit lens I was using and so I got a 24-105mm lens as a step up. No improvement but the lens was great (when in focus). So the problem is my 7d has suddenly started taking really sh*te photographs and I am freaking out.
The photos have the same blur as a decentered lens….except it is the same on all lenses. So it must be the camera. I just want to see if anyone can shed any light on this before I have heart failure over a repair price.
I took a quick pic today (now it is a bad pic, slightly underexposed but I wanted to demonstrate using a quick shutter speed…. but you can see the blurriness). It was taken at ISO 160 / 50mm / ƒ/11 /1/320 RAW
Before anyone asks about shake, shutter, experience etc. I know this camera well, I have used it religiously since I got it and am experienced with it. I normally shoot landscape but have done portraits, fashion, events etc….. so basically I am saying that it is not me shaking…or taking a pic from a moving train :lol:

It was done at f4 which is a bit wide but I normally don’t get this kind of distorted blur. If I used f11-13 it would basically be the same. Getting mad blurriness at narrower apertures too. :(

Are you shooting with Autofocus active? The camera could be “searching” for acceptable focus between shots. Also check which focus points are active. You might have it set to focus points which are off center.
I shoot manual and autofocus with the same results. I choose my AF points, I am so used to the camera so it is not a case of me not being able to use it properly, I’m well trained up on it at this stage :) …..I looked online and apparently a good thing to do is to ‘reboot’ the camera i.e. take all batteries out including system for approximately 1 hour. When switching back on it will ask for time and date again….I did this and I have to say that it is looking good. I am not getting too excited yet though. Will test out some more shots later and see how it is looking. I went from getting pretty good shots to not being able to get a sharp photo…in any kind of focus (AI SERVO, ONE SHOT etc, single point, zone etc). Hopefully my camera just needed to be shut down to reboot itself. Poor camera is probably wrecked :shock:
Got a quote from Image Supply Systems in Dublin for a recalibration on the 7d.
Also a replacement for the FPC unit so I am hoping this resolves the issue.
Will update on this when I get the camera back at the end of the week/start of next week.

New update on Canon 7d received back from ISS. No improvement after ‘fixing’. Still have terrible quality images and super high ISO (even at 100) and also blur over images. Same on every lens. Gutted. :(
If the same issue is with all lenses, then it looks like a sensor alignment problem or possibly a smear on the sensor from cleaning fluid / fingerprint etc.
Sensor was cleaned by ISS so doubt it’s that….they cleaned dust etc so I would think/hope they would’ve noticed any problems with it….I’m totally at a loss as to why the 7d has gotten so bad
It may be an idea to try to narrow down the issue. Maybe try a test photo of something with some consistent features in it such as a brick wall for example, take the photo parallel to the wall and have the camera level, mainly no tilt forward or back. If the centre of the photo then remains blurry it should rule out any focus issues and differences in depth of field. It may then point towards a sensor issue.
Did you update the firmware ?
I had something similar, camera wasn’t behaving…. I just put it down to my lack of skill.
I had another issue with the battery sensor showing empty…. updated the Firmware and repaired the battery problem.I have noticed since that update the quality of my pics improved….. and I am not gentle with my camera.
Give it a lash if you haven’t done so already… nothing to lose at this point.Clear all custom settings also

Will try that out again, I’ll update when I figure it out. I borrowed a friends 6d today and the issue isn’t down to skill or lenses (was doubting myself for a while there :lol: ) . Canon support are requesting images to look at, in RAW format to see if they can figure it out too.

Yes I was just looking at the firmware and must update it now! Glad to hear that it worked for you, will definitely give it a go. Canon are asking for RAW files and I’m actually embarrassed sending them to them as the quality is shocking :lol: Hoping that I’m not just going a bit crazy! Thanks for the advice and hopefully it’ll work for me too
Update: Firmware was updated, no improvement.
Sent images to Canon and ISS and they both agreed that there was still a problem. Currently back in ISS so hoping to hear back soon
