Canon 7D Video

Hi all
I took some video clips on my 7D over the weekend for the first time. They play fine on the camera but when I download them as Quicktime (I find this useless anyway) files they are very jumpy and dont play right.
Is this a software problem? CAn I convert and play them in another format? Or is it to do with the fact theya re HD files and my laptop (old) simply cant handle them?

MMthe files are too big for your laptop to handle. you need a fast processor, a lot of RAM and dedicated graphics card to handle HD video files
