    Hi all

I am looking at this lens Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens.

It looks really great. I wouldn’t mind but we are being totally busted in this country cost wise!

Its 1529.00 Euro at pixels.ie and a 1000 DOLLARS (AKA 690 EUROS)! in New York to which I will be traveling to on monday. So I may well choose to get one.

Has anyone got one?If so I would I be so daring as to ask for some sample shots if anyone has time :)

Any thoughts, Ideas and Opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank You All

    Regards
    John

    Hi John,

I would suggest you have a look at the following review. It has all of the information that you could possibly want on this and many other Canon related equipment.

I use the Canon EF24-70 F2.8L lens on a full frame DSLR and it is superb … Highly recommended.

    Hi

I am heading over next sunday and will be picking up the same lens in b&h. The 24-70mm.
It is 1910 euros on the irish canon site!!!!!!!

Can’t wait. I am going on a spending spree in B&h.

Whats adorama like? Might pop in there too.

Any recommendations on a good solid tripod??

I have ordered a few things from adorama,
have had very good luck with them and less in price then B+h.
While your there see if they have your lens with UK warranty as they sell for less here then usa warranty then lenses.
You may also want to check 47th st. photo.

    Thanks Jim

Not sure what you mean by the warranty? confused

Will check out 47th st too.

    Thanks for the advice.

EDIT: btw did you get stung for vat etc when you get it shipped to you here in ireland? (might order stuff in future from them online)

The 24-70mm is one of my most used lenses. A brilliant lens, great quality.

For those buying online, check http://stores.ebay.ie/Kea-Photo €890 inc shipping to Ireland, and inc 3yr Mack warranty.

But, if you’re in NY, then it’s well worth stopping by B&H or Adorama and buying one.

As for a solid tripod – Manfrotto 055Pro or 190.

I own the 055XProB model. I find it brilliant. I use the 322RC2 head on it.

I use this combination too. suits me, not too heavy and very versatile.

Given the choice between the 24-70 and the 24-105, which one would you prefer?

If it’s coming from the US then yes you will and the amount depends on how the item is declared.

This includes secondhand goods too from my experience. Customs say it’s because it is the first time the item is registered for vat in the EU therefore qualifies to be taxed.

In my line of photography, whichever one gives me f/2.8.

    I live in the US.
Due to the inconveince of repairs, some US distruters that carrie lenses and other equipment that have service warrantys outside the US such as the UK. Sell here for less money.
So if they do not know that your from Ireland before you make a deal and agree to take a none US backed lens you may get a better price.

    24-70 is f/2.8
24-105 is f/4 but it does have IS.

    Personally, I prefer the 24-70mm f/2.8 L

as regards the vat/import duty coming from america by post/courier i find 8 times out of 10 you get nabbed mainly cos they dont like putting on anything other than the true value, but coming from hong kong its more like 1 in 4 times cos they almost always declare it as a gift of no commercial value. imo the 24-70 is feking wonderful and the 24-105 was very good but just not quite fast enough
