Canon ip5000 with Epson Paper
-
MarieCParticipant
Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody had any advice on running a canon ip5000 with Epson paper….I know it sounds like an odd thing to do but I have the canon printer (and like it) but find it far easier to get my hands on Epson paper.
I have heard of ICC (I think) profiles and was wondering if anyone knows how you go about getting one :) I know there may be a cost involved but if it makes the paper/printer more compatible with each other I would be happy to pay.
Other solution buying an Epson printer but I am really not sure I would get away with that :)
Any advice appreciated.
MarieEnzymeParticipantHi Marie.
The simplest and cheapest way to get an ICC profile is to get some one like http://www.permajet.com in the uk to do it for about £25. The link is http://www.permajet.com/30/ICC_Profiles.htmlConn’s cameras in Dublin do it for about €50 too. Permajet are probably better. Basically a colour chart jpg file is emailed to you from Conn’s or downloaded from Permajet. You print the image on A4 at 100% with colour management turned off. You post off the printed colour chart. An ICC file is emailed back to you. You drop that into a folder containing all your other icc profiles which come with your printer, scanner etc. When you go back to photoshop you print the photo using that correct ICC profile for that paper, your printer, your inks, the print quality you chose.
BTW if you buy permajet paper they provide the service for free.
The exact method for everything is described in 2 pdfs you can download from permajet.
One important thing. Make sure your screen is also correctly calibrated. Without this all other types of colour calibration, whether it be your camera, your scanner, your printer is pointless. If your printer is not set correctly the prints may look very different. I use the spyder 3 elite from Datacolour. It’s very good and not too expensive.
If you want to calibrate several papers than you can also but your own calibration device. Datacolour sell one which can be bought with the screen calibration device.
So best of luck
MarieCParticipantThank You Enda :) I will have a look into that. I have a spyder 2 (I think) and it came with printfix which I have not sat down and played with but will do one day soon  However, the site you mentioned sounds very useful so thanks again :)
