Canon IS "mode 2" Question
-
Adam.O.CParticipant
Basically, in the next month or so, I’m gonna be investing in either a 70-200 L F4 IS or a 100-400 L IS.
Both have the IS mode 2 for panning stabilization, which on paper seems perfect for me, cause I will only be shooting Motorsport with the lens.I’m just wondering does anyone have any experience with this setting…? does it really help sharpen up the subject your panning with…? is the IS mode 2 truly effective…?
Might sound like a stupid question, but I just wanna make sure I’m going for the right one before I invest a fair oul heap of money into it

It definitely works or its a great job by Canon to introduce an anti IS system
I find if I forget to switch into the 2 position for panning shots I lose lots of them, far more than if in the correct position. So my conspiracy theory question would be would I lose as many with it switched off and in fact having it in the wrong the position is worse than no IS?
Adam.O.CParticipantHmmmmmm I see what you mean….:P surely in every situation of handheld, IS while handheld, no matter what the mode, its gonna improve the shot
I feel I got the hang of panning and such, but I just wanna increase my “keep rate”, I go to these racing events, take over 1000 photos, come home and delete over 50-60% and in the most cases, I dont catch a crash or other incident cause of it being blurred to be-jesus to make out…:P
