I use Capture One LE and am considering an upgrade to Pro, but I’m not familiar with Db and haven’t really delved into the PhaseOne website to find out more. What is it you want to know?
MikeanywhereParticipantThorsten,
Out of interest, what benefit is there to using this programme against the likes of Lightroom or Aperture??
Cheers
Mike

I’ll be honest and say I really don’t know, as I haven’t tried either Lightroom or Aperture and neither have I read their specs. But having used C1 for a number of years now I’m totally at home with it and find it really quick and easy to use. I really like the way it can convert files in the background that one has already adjusted whilst one continues adjusting additional files. Once done adjusting one simply adds them to the processing queue. What I like about C1 Pro is that you can create multiple file types in one operation. For example it can simultaneously generate a 16-bit TIFF, an 8-bit aRGB JPEG and a web-ready sRGB JPEG, if that’s what you need. Along with customisable profiles and a raft of other features, it’s the bees knees of RAW converters IMHO. Plus it works like a dream on my ageing W2K machine. Not sure if Lightroom or Aperture work on W2K so I haven’t even bothered to try them and without a broadband connection downloading the trial/beta versions would have been a real pain. C1 has a whole host of other features which I find really useful and easy to use as well.
There was a promotion in conjunction with SanDisk; if you bought one of their Extreme III cards you get a free C1 LE license (worth about ? 150.00). I’m not sure if the promotion is still running. You need to make sure that you get one of the appropriately packaged SanDisk cards however and I’ve not seen them in Ireland (PicStop in the UK had them).
If there’s anyone out there willing to do a comparison between the three products I’d be interested in your opinion.

Does anyone know about this software too?
Thanks
Capture One DB is for exclusive use for the Phase One Digital Backs (hence the DB). Have you won the lotto and gone out and bought one of these?
PeteTheBlokeMemberI’ve a client who needs to install the two programs. I think that’s a done deal.
I just need to know how it works. I assume it’s all on the workstation. I was going to install a fast NAS device for storage, but not mess about with a server if it’s not necessary.
MikeanywhereParticipantThanks for that and I appreciate your honesty.
Would love to see it in action myself so next time I am down your next of woods I will email you
markcapilitanParticipantI bought 2 Extreme III cards recently and have the promotional codes that Thorsten was on about. I’ve no need for them, so if anyone wants them…let me know.

Yep, it’s a workstation install. Shouldn’t be any problem routing the converted files to a NAS device. There are options within the app allowing you to specify the destination of the converted files which of course does not have to be the same as the RAW image. BTW, it’s a great application for shooting tethered.
