The person responsible is on holidays…so that’s what’s gone wrong. Bet he’s sorry he spent a fortune on a skiing holiday now!!

You know the machines that can be attached to tractors and fertilizer is spread by them on the fields? Could those be used to spread salt and sand on the roads? If so, farmers could do the gritting in winters like this, hired and paid by the state for those few days. That would be an income for the farmers and a big saving for the state as well.. just an idea.
We went out to the local quarry this afternoon to buy a load of sand to spread on our road
and fair play to the quarry owner he didn’t take a penny, even though it was a full dump trailer load.
We were going to use the fertilizer spreader, one on the quad and one on the tractor, but the sand was
to damp for the spreader to work right so it was just man power standing in the trailer using shovelsBMParticipantcathald wrote:

miki gParticipantAs I was slipping & sliding past town hall today, there was one of those big bags of sand like what builders use lying in a corner. None of it was used on the footpath though. Probably held for later when the council members will be returning to their cars.

They’ve been offering, but the councils won’t allow them ‘because of insurance’. The army haven’t been used because they haven’t been asked. There’s at least fifteen tonnes of grit next to the road by my house that nobody has been spreading, even though cars are sliding. Is it for us? Is it for council use later? It’s a farce.
Just saw that on the news… these bureaucrats are let loose, they should really think again what’s more important, the people or the written rules.
Fair play, Cathal for going out and taking action.
Bring on the Summer!
nfl-fanParticipantnfl-fanParticipantSister just out the door and off to the hospital after falling down town…
Alan RossiterParticipantAttendees at A&E up 33%. Cost – €hundreds of thousands in costs and lost earnings and disability benefit.
Grit & salt. Cost – €thousandsWhich dept do you think will win the race to maintaining their budget allocation?
Fair play Cathal…we should follow with your example. Got a lend of a quad bike????
Alan.
