I took this a while back in my local woods. I have a bit of a soft spot for waterfalls but I always find it a struggle to find a new viewpoint.

Excellent Andy. The ferns and the main cascade are really nice.

I wonder if the stream to the right adds anything though. It seems to have an almost icy look at this exposure length. Maybe you were dreaming of getting your crampons on and setting a few chips flying?

Was going to mention the water on the right as well… from here it looks almost as if you’ve roughly photoshopped the edges (esp the top edge)? It just doesn’t look “natural” to me anyway.

Perhaps it’s the viewpoint you’ve chosen playing tricks with me, but without having a larger version to look at I wouldn’t want to commit either way :-)

Any chance of a link to a larger version?

Great perspective, and it’s got the classic silky smooth milky water feel going on.

I agree about maybe losing the RHS fall – perhaps cropping to portrait?

Also, after reading Dave’s comments above, I see what he means about the water’s edge – now I’ve noticed it, it jumps out at me like a sore thumb. Quirk of the shot, or some PS remnance?

Thanks for the comments folks. This image was taken on Velvia slide film with minimal post processing. I think that the effect that you mention to the RHS must be some trick of the light. I would agree that the right hand side is a little “off”. Not quite sure myself but perhaps it’s because the water flows in from the right as well as the top.

hey Andy, as others have said – my only niggle would be the sharpness of the edge of the rock on the right hand side. I might suggest just blurring the edge slightly, i reckon this might make it fit in with the look and feel of the rest of the shot?
