I downloaded photomatix and had go at tone mapping. My first efforts are below – obviously wasnt trying to depict a “real” scene but still like some of the effects you can get using this software over the hdr tools in photoshop.
Really nice HDR and not over cooked. Have photomatix too and think its great,
Loving the first shot, but maybe darken sky a tad on the right hand side

That’s a wonderful building- deceptively large too-
I haven’t been there in over 25 years- I keep meaning to visit again-
It looks nicely restored- much better condition now-
Is it very built up around there now?
I know the second shot is meant to be like that,
and it is a slightly comical lion- almost a Punch caricature oirish lion maybe-
or is it as a result of the perspective?
But the first shot looks like quite a steep perspective…
There’s a nice bit of light in these- hazy bright-
perhaps a full range of tones without having to use more?
Thanks for comments – I will play around with the sky Deebo.
Joseph – it is fairly built up around there but there is still a patch of green around the building and a football ground- and you are right about the building – 3 stories inside but dosnt look like that from outside – i haven’t visited inside in a few years. The place itself it closed – both inside and outside until later in month but there is a friendly OPW guy who will you let you visit if he sees you trying to take pictures. I must go back at night sometime maybe with a full moon.
I was trying to exaggerate the lion in second one – so got in close with a wide lens
