Two things:
One. Don’t listen to me because I don’t know much about portraits.
Two. This is a wonderful picture in so far as you have incredible sharp detail, you’ve achieved almost perfect depth of field, the light reveals every facet of your subject’s face and the exposure looks extremely accurate. The overall image just lacks life, somehow. I hesitate to blame the model, but if she had just twitched the corner of her mouth, or tilted her chin a little more, or even scowled, it could have made the picture. Do you see what I mean?I hope you’ll take this in good humour because I’ve avoided kid-gloves as you are evidently an accomplished photographer already.
RobMembergerardkParticipantThats an excellent shot – I love the lighting and the level of detail. It looks like a great b/w conversion too, I think the models expression is a bit neutral but its still engaging. Excellent – I would be interested to see more of these.
jb7ParticipantI think I’d side more with Gerard than Pete or Rob,
although in an unusual departure from form,
I’d quite like to agree with everyone-I do like it, technically excellent-
maybe there are others from the same shoot?j
RobMemberOthers from the same shoot would be a joy to see.
Did I neglect to mention that your model is stunningly beautiful?Rob.
ultrovoiletoneMemberHi Guys
Thanks for the feedback. Pete’s suggesting that I should get the model to do something strikes a cord . I think I’m still at the stage where most of my concentration is on the technical aspect and trying to get lighting et all correct .Its something for me to keep in mind next time.
As for more pictures I’m afraid I just took about 4 photos of catherine who is a friend of my niece .(I was taking some family photos for my niece’s 21st) But I will be taking more photos of her in the future .(all things going to plan).
Thanks once again ,its made me glad I posted a pic and I will post some more in the future .

Nothing wrong with that at all. But here’s a quick tip. Get your lighting set up and right before you do the actual shoot, then all you gotta do is slot your subject in position and away you go! Nice and simple! Now why don’t I practice what I preach!?
