Myself and a fellow photographer were talkin about starting a club for the north coast photographers, we know of one but it seems to be very regimented and quite old school, not really what we are looking for.
So i thought i would put it out there and see if there would be much intrest from any of the members on here from the triangle area ?
It would probably meet in coleraine or ballymoney time about ? once or twice a month ? Just all ideas at the moment.
Cheers
Ricky.HelenMParticipantNow that sounds interesting. Would you be expecting interested folk to be of an already high standard or would those seeking to learn/improve be welcome? I might be interested enough to travel up, even though I am just south of Belfast.
RGH_PhotographyMemberBasicly we would be looking for people with a high interest in photography, all aspects from studio to travel.
I dont really agree with requirement levels for such clubs but i would like members that would try there hairy best to attened most evenings.Anyone else interested stick a post up.
Cheers
Ricky.AndyLParticipantI would certainly be interested, I’m a north coast blow in on most weekends!

When you say above old school does this mean people who probably know what they are talking about and you dont want them
or is it that they are older people and you just dont want them in you ”club”to me its sounds as if you are excluding people of a certain age and to be honest i think you are wrong as these people who could have been taking photos
when you where stll in nappies and will probably teach you a thing or two or perhaps you dont want to learn from experience.Cathal
Sgt_MajorMemberold != better.
We all know of clubs where the older members are less than helpful to the younger, newer members.
cathaldParticipantI am a member of Moville camera club where there is a lot of older members who really enjoy getting out with myself and Sean1098
and there is one member who is an excellant wedding photographer and has offered us up to his studio to take and develop film shots
this is something i do not have a clue about and is really good of this ”older member” to take the time to show usCathal
Sgt_MajorMemberoh, I’m not saying they are all like that, but maybe just the OP’s experiences have been negative so far.
RGH_PhotographyMemberI have nothing against older members and am surprised that this thread has now been turned into some sort of ageist debate??? When I say “oldskool” I mean they meet in a room twice a month and little or no expeditions, simply because most of the members wouldn’t make it half a mile! NO Photoshop advice or use at all for the few digital users. (I had thought of bringing a laptop to every meeting for advice and tips etc) And during an exhibit you’re restricted to self printed A4 size prints and homemade frames which to be honest look awful!
I would be happy for anyone to join but I would like an active and practical club with members that are willing to help anyone regardless of age or experience. I know not all clubs are like the one I mentioned but it’s the only other club I know of local to me.
richy5497MemberI have been to 3 clubs and they all seem to be mainly populated by the older crowd. This isn’t a criticism in any way, but rather an observation.
I think the younger ones perhaps like to stick to forums like this one and avoid the clubs as they see most of the members are post-retirement age (this is not an exaggeration IME) . I am 34 and it’s been a long time since i was ever seen as the ‘young-fella’, but if you wanna feel young, just join a camera club :).
I’d welcome a camera club with younger members, although i live in Kilkeel and won’t be travelling to Ballymoney. I don’t think they should restrict older members, but maybe a bit of focus toward the younger crowd would work well to try to get new members. Some of these clubs can only have a limited lifespan unless they get new members in and the ones they have seem to be past 60 and some are a bit ‘Smeegle’ with the info :)
mmmmmmMMMMM….MY precioussss!
