Causeway Twilight – REWORK
-
SteveDParticipant
Steven Hanna and I headed up to the Giant’s Causeway this evening for an hour or two. The rain stayed away but the sea spray made it almost impossible to take any photos.
While he was showing off with his 6 minute exposures :) , I captured this one. Not exactly the most exciting shot ever, but I’m fairly happy with it. Feedback welcome…
Canon 30D, Canon 17-85mm EF-S IS 17mm, 10 seconds f16, ISO100.
Ok folks, thanks very much for all your feedback. Here is the edited version…
Thanks,
StevepetercoxMemberSteve –
I like this one. Good strong composition and a decent sky. My criticism would be that the rocks are too dark in the shadowed areas – just a little more exposure would have opened those up and given a stronger image.Cheers,
PeterMartinParticipantvery nice composition but the rocks are just too dark. Presume this is taken in raw so would have another go at converting it to get more detail into the rocks if possible
M
mgstParticipantReally nice sky in this one but has been said a little too dark in the foreground.
MIck
constantineParticipantWell, I think its a brilliant picture.
The dark rocks in foreground will be saved with a bit of tweaking, and you’ll have a sell-able picture there.
Well done
SteveDParticipantThanks for the feedback folks.
I have probably gone a bit overboard with the ‘moody’ look. I bracketed my exposures, so it won’t be a problem to bring back a bit of detail in the rocks.
Cheers,
Stevejb7ParticipantIt’d be better with more detail-
It has your signature colours,
but the tones could be worked more, as has been mentioned-j
nfl-fanParticipantSuper shot, full of potential.
Seeing this puts a longing on me to take a trip to this area.
The composition is A1. Agree with what’s already be said. Room for improvement… would take this to another level.
J
ps. Sea spray is the greatest pain in the hole of all time. Would put ya in a bad mood.
wayneleoneMemberGreat picture but agree with the above. Look forward to seeing a version with some more detail in the rocks.
andy mcinroyParticipantVery nice Steve. I would agree with the comments so far.
I don’t always have a problem with black areas in a photo but this is one which I think could benefit with a bit of dodging.
I do like the whisp of cloud rising in the distance.
For some reason that puddle of foam in central foreground catches my eye. I might have been tempted to spoon it off for my hot chocolate.
Andy
ericParticipantFor me it works very well,
maby a bit to dark but I know how hard is to get right exposure
Did you use any ND or other filters?Eric
JMac-2006ParticipantSteveDParticipantThanks very much for the feedback lads, sorry about the delay coming back to you.
Edit shown above.
