Caves of Rathlin chapter is complete

Your feedback on this chapter would be much appreciated. In my 2 days on Rathlin I managed to investigate 9 caves. Cheers to PetetheBloke, Gizzo, Cathald and Standev for your company. I might have been too scared to go into some of these on my own.
My project to photograph the caves of Antrim would not be complete without a visit to Rathlin Island. Rathlin lies 6 miles off the coast of Northern Ireland and 16 miles from Scotland. Its position, as a stepping stone between Ireland and Scotland, has shaped the island’s rich history which stretches back to mesolithic times. The caves of Rathlin are numerous and varied. There are dark, deep-water basalt caves; there are sculpted limestone caves; there are also raised, relict caves which are now stranded high above the sea. The caves of Rathlin are steeped in history and legend. In early mesolithic times they were the dwellings of stone-age men. Later, they were used as hiding places during times of confict, notably by the great Robert the Bruce. Many are also said to be inhabited by ghosts and perhaps even by the devil himself.
In September 2008 I made my first visit to Rathlin to explore and photograph some of these caves. Let me take you on a tour of this island’s most secret places.

mcmartinParticipantAndy photo as always great, and the story on your website is really nice… You must have had a lot of fun, knowing your interest in walking into the caves…
great adventure and nice continuation of your project…HelenMParticipantAndy, you are a mad, driven, possibly slightly insane bloke – the things you get yourself into!
But there is absolutely no doubt in the matter that you are a Class A perfectionist photographer. And I guess someone had to do it!
Kudos! :DSeaviewParticipantAnother really great cave shot, also great stories and photos on your web page.
Dave.
rc53MemberVery interesting series, well presented.
After you have done the Antrim caves, are you going further afield?andy mcinroyParticipantThanks folks, glad you are enjoying the series.
Bertie, I don’t have any plans for cavehunts anywhere else right now although I’ll always keep an eye out on my travels. I’ll probably be hanging up my headtorch on the project next year. It’s going to be impossible to get round them all but hopefully I have given a good flavour of what is here in Antrim.
