CF card prices…SHOCK!!
-
Not Pete the blokeParticipant
I was clearing out some old paperwork when I came across an invoice from 2004 for a 2GB CF card. How much did I pay for it…..? £189.00
ExpresbroParticipantIt’s gas isn’t it Ross.
I just ordered some Sandisk 4Gb Extreme III cards for the very reasonable price of £16.99 each from 7Dayshop.com.
How times and technology change…and how fast.
On a side note…was reading some stuff online about CF cards and it seems that Ebay say that approximately 95% of the Flash memory cards sold on their site are fakes!!
Stay away from ebay for memory methinks
steelydanParticipantOn the ebay home page ,down the right hand side i think there is something about Fake CF card along with Fake USB Pen drives. Worth a read of you are considering memory for your camera.
slang61ParticipantI bought a 16gb sdhc on ebay recently for about €25 and it is fine…..
it also included a very hand usb card reader.ExpresbroParticipantI think the main problems seem to be with fake versions of faster cards like the Sandisk Extreme. The cards a lot of the time still work..but they are basically re badged budget cards and the transfer and read/write speeds will be significantly lower than the real thing.
Another problem is where they use lower capacity cards and reformat them to read as higher capacity cards. You don’t find out until you try to load more than the real capacity of the card and it just hangs.
Anyway, certainly put me off buying memory on Ebay anyway.
PeteTheBlokeMemberWatch batteries on Ebay too. I bought Energizer rechargeable AA batteries 2500mAh
and they look perfect, as did the packing. They don’t even last 10 minutes in a
torch.GCPParticipantWhen I changed to digital first in 2003 I paid £97 stg for 128MB compact flash cards each !! I still have about 10 of them. Also have a good few Smart Media cards 128MB (they were a bit cheaper – dont know why) also, as the Olympus E20P I was using back then took both cards.
Strange to say it would really slow down if you used a bigger card in it like 256MB and got a bit faster if you used the 64MB cards.positronMemberAnd I remember paying £12 for a 8mb sd card (it was called smart sd or something back then?) on eBay back in 2000. It was a steal back then as Dixons etc were selling the same for nearly £35!! I had the Fuji Finepix Mx1200 camera which came with a 2mb card!

For a laugh I had a look on Conns website. €99.99 plus the trip into town for the same card. It must be the extra services they provide for CF cards
Shutter BugMemberandybenitezParticipanthttp://www.elara.ie are very reasonable for memory cards, they also give you the option of collection or delivery
e.g. 4GB Extreme III CF 30mb/s only €32.67
