Chess players ?

I wonder if there are any chess players here on PI. It’s something I played a little of in my teens, and had not really played since, until being invited to a correspondence chess site by a friend. I’ve been playing a few games at a time there, these last few months, and was pleasantly surprised I was not as awful as I may have imagined :)

It’s funny to think at this stage I have not probably played an over the board game of chess in about ten years, and find myself thinking of rectifying that, possibly even joining a local club.

Would be interesting to see if there are any chess players among the photographers here..

I tried learning chess a few years ago, but couldn’t remember all the moves & gave up after a few months. I did beat my computer once though in a game & felt great afterwards.

Miki, Lol, seems you are part of a not so exclusive group :)

Mark, Sounds pretty much like myself. I’m getting a kick out of correspondence chess at the moment at redhotpawn.com, and finding it a great way to get back to playing a bit. It’s nice having the freedom of about half a dozen games on the go, and being able to move when it suits you. I fear I shall be quite rusty when it comes to playing in real time again though :)

won many compitions in chess, but kinda just gave it up, still play with mates about once a month:)

The awful pun aside, I must say I’m quite impressed. Was it time demands that made you give it up ?

I wonder what level you got to. It’s been years and years since looking at the rating system, but must say the idea eventually of targeting a reasonable level, and aspiring to reaching that is appealing.

for me it helps me think, clears my head, helps me think clearly, its great to play and for my first year in college was obsessed with photographing chess boards in the studio……
