Choices choices…..

Ok first off…. I am thinking of selling my 20D, as since getting my 5D it has sat in the bottom of a very large bag and not really seen the light of day. It going with the battery grip, 2 batteries and a 1GB flash card. All boxes and other bits included….

Now the dilemma… I am very tempted by a few things… first off is the Canon 35mm f1.4L…. I have a 50 f1.8 but have had a look at shots taken with the 35 and they blow it away… I know I would have to add a few quid to whatever I get for the 20D but thats ok… next choice is the Canon 24-105 f4L IS … I find the 17-40L a little bit too wide when travelling with the 5D… the extra reach of the 24-105 would be useful and I could live with the 24mm on the 5D… Have any of you guys any experience of these lens…? Or if any of you would be interested in swapping one with me let me know by PM… At the minute I am leaning towards the 35mm as I am a fecker for image quality and already have 6 primes in the bag…!

Another option is to buy a new monitor to replace my aging 17inch Apple Studio Display…. would be looking for something minimum 20inch as I continually lust for extra on screen space when working in PS and other packages… Any ideas…? I have limited desk space so it will be an LCD. What do you guys use…? (Oh it will be mated up to a Dual G5 so I think I have most video connections)

    Thanks in advance

Not sure abou the lens, want to hear what people say about the 24 -105 because i am considering one

    But interms of a monitor

Have a look at the dell 24″, i think its call 2707, it is 1920 *1200 res, ie true HD and also has video imputs handy to put your xbox through at the same time (he he)

its about 900 euro and is a fantastic monitor

I have that one and its great, allows you to have numerous applications going on screen at the same time. However, a dual screen is defo the way to go.

I must agree I prefer two monitors

I use two Neovo F-419 LCD monitors, DVI & VGA inputs

I have them through a pair of switchers so i can switch the various computers to the monitors

There are very nice, and really not very expensive, less than 300 euro each.

The reason i suggested the dell though was if yourshort of desktop space one larger monitor will be less space

Thanks for that guys… heard a lot of good things about those DELL flat screens and yes that probably is the one I would go for if thats the option I go for….!

Anyone got any input on the lens…? I have read reviews on FM forums and Photo.net but am still undecided…? Come on persuade me… the beatuiful optics of the 35 or the practicality of the 24-105….? arrrrrgggghhhhhh…..!

    Cheers

    Richie,

Just bite the bullet and get both. You know you’re not going to be happy with just one of them.

I too am a big fan of prime lenses.

Richie, Decide when you get the camera sold. The choice won’t do your head in then

Richie , I am beginning to see a lot of people that bought the 24-70 f2.8L were selling them because the 24 -105 f4 L was out. and it looked like a better “Walk Around” lens. Now looking at the same people they are not too impressed with the quality of the 24-105 versus the 24-70 some have gone back to their original choice. In saying that a freind of mine bought the 24-105 and he says its a cracking lens ,he has the 20D but what it looks like ,that he’s heading for the full frame 5D.But he wont sell his 17-40, as it fits his EOS 3 Slide camera also.
