Choosing a Flash Unit

Hi there, I’m looking for advice on choosing a flash option for portrait use. I would like to have the option of shooting both outdoors and in studio, so versatility is really what I wan’t. I can’t decide whether to choose between a on-camera flash or a off-camera flash unit. I have a budget of around €600 to spend. Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Hi Johnny. That’s an option I thought of alright. Probably the least expensive setup. How do you fire the flashes? Do you use a pocket wizard or infra-red light?

speed lights are more portable if you want studio flash and shoot outdoor you will need battery pack witch are expensive , you can buy almost any speed light and use radio trigger to fire them but they should have manual mode to let you set power
