Good capture. I’ve only got close enough to shoot them in flight, and I’ve always missed as a result!

I think, like me, you really miss that 500mm f4 lens.

Would love a 600mm f/4 actually, badly needed for this kinda oppertunity, when the subject is too far for a full framed detailed shot, you have to make do with what you’ve got and try place the bird in its environment, thats what i was going for here.
    Have used a 600 f4 with a 1.4 extender, wow wow wow!!!!

Heard about this bird for the first time on the BBC2 programme COAST last night – that they disappeared form Cornwall and are now resettling there.

    Good to capture it.

I used to think they were quite rare.
But over the last couple of years I came across small groups in Donegal, Sligo, Clare and just a month ago in Kerry.

Headlands and cliffs are a great spot to catch a glimpse of them
They are great flyers and it’s a delight to watch when they are doing their air-stunts.

Now, where will I get that 600mm f/4 again?

I like the composition of this one. It gives you a sense of placement and scale.

600mm!?!?! A buddy of mine who’s a pro rencently traded all of his Nikon digital gear to switch to a Canon 5D. He missed having true 35mm cropping after a life of film. He sent me a mail listing everythign he was buying and then started adding the new 70-200, 600 F4, etc. I was almost ready to scream when he told me he was just joking. He keeps winding me up about it now.
