Um… I personally like these although they are not technically brilliant at all. But they’re here for critique so say or do what you must :)

rhynMemberThose are some epic skies! The sunrays in the second one are fantastic. I wonder what a tighter crop would look like, putting the sun in the left background of the photo.
plainoldmeMemberI dont really get what you mean Rhyn?
To crop them to have the sun in the left hand side would make them tiny, and take out most of the foreground interest in the second…Or am I missing something? I dunno :?
alancotterParticipantI don’t really understand either what is meant by the crop suggestions..
If i had to pick one of these shots, then it would be the second.. But the foreground is too dark and has lost alot of detail, there is to much of it there to get away with it. If that foreground was brighter, then you’d be onto something.. The skys aren’t that epic to be honest. The second shot though, personally i think, if crop out the top 3rd of the shot just above the sun and brighten a bit the foreground (if possible), then is would be a shot and a half.. i think..
plainoldmeMemberThink you were being a bit hopeful alan :lol:
guess I made a mess of it reallyrhynMemberYe sorry i dunno i just felt the interest was in the sky not the foreground, you say it would make the image tiny i just assumed the full size image was in the 2000-3000 pixel range so it wouldn’t be that small.
alancotterParticipantThe reposted image of the second shot i feel is now far more impressive, still a little dark, but it’s much improved ;-)
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantWell like you agreed, technically difficult, needs more energy to “save” it, than to bring it on the next level of quality ( ; BUT you have the fantastic sky structure.
I would crop the buttom of the second image, shilouettes to sky like 1:2. Then try to get details into the sky with different gradiation adjustment layers. Maybe you still find the shilouette line left and right (do you have raw?)- that would add to the image alot. I thing it would be painful to find details in the forground. So keep the shilouette idea and focus on a dramatic sky. Then it could be a great image. But all depends of your basic file quality.
Good luck and rescue the forms and lights ( ;
Plainoldme: it doesn’t make sense to cut the mainimportant element out (sky) and to draw the attention to a big black nonstructured area. the other way around should work.
Cheers Madeleine
plainoldmeMemberThanks everyone for the opinions. Think i’ll give this another go on another day with more focus on the sky. (And better PP if I could manage that hehe).
