Clontarf by night

davenewtParticipant
Hey folks.
Rather than sitting on my bum all evening, I decided to go for a drive and take some night shots with my new camera and recently purchased (about 6pm if you’re picky) tripod.
Didn’t fare too well, partly because it was a tad windy in my chosen location, partly because my chosen location was a bit pants, and somewhat to do with it being feckin’ freezin’ out there.
So I came home, plugged in the camera, fired up lightroom and… oh. Not very good. They looked alright on the camera’s 2.5″ screen. No fair! This is harder than I expected it to be.
I rescued one… am playing with another. For now, here’s the first attempt at night shooting, long exposures, and freezing my fingers off. Brrrrrrr!
A host of image adjustments, as the more astute among you are probably being offended by at this very moment. Sorry about that.
Most of my 30-sec exposures came out quite blurry (shaky blurry, as opposed to out of focus). Given I had a tripod and I was holding it steady the whole time (said the actress to the bishop), I can only put this down to the wind shaking the camera on the top of the tripod anyway (yargh) or my shaking hands in the cold of night :-)
Probably the former?
Ne’er mind. Better luck next time! I ‘ope!
Dave 8)LoGillParticipantahhhh the old wooden bridge to the dollyer i think..;)
Happy new gadgets Dave :D
I’ve not yet tried night shots (just got a tripod myself, haven’t tried it yet tho ) but i really like the sky and moon in this – its looks wispy and mysterios .. I’m not crazy about the houses alng the bottom.. the lights are a bit bright to me .. but jeez .. not bad at all to me !!
Happy posting :D
L ;)
davenewtParticipantI’ll get there eventually ;-)
Did you notice I’ve gone over 200 posts? That’s what prompted me to put up another image ;-)

LoGillParticipantjb7ParticipantIt looks good to me
but goes to kind of show,
that the best filter in your bag
is quite likely to be your car.It does look a little overexposed-
though if its Rhett Butler you’re after,
you’ve come to the right place.Hope this helps!
j
davenewtParticipantThanks JB. If you mean I should’ve put my car between me and the lights which distract me even more every time I look at this shot, then you could be right :-)
Also, who is Rhett Butler (I have no shame in admitting I haven’t a clue, would be more ashamed to google the name to pretend I know)…
…and why do your posts read like haiku?
:-)

jb7ParticipantI don’t have the meter of Haiku,
too many syllables too.
so its only punctuation-Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind who watched Savannah burn
(or something like that)
cos thats what the lights remind me of-.And I really should learn to keep my mouth shut when I get back from a night out,
I’m gonna get in trouble one of these days.well, more trouble.

in seventeen syllables
is very diffic”,John Cooper Clark describing the Japanese haiku.
I like the flares Dave. Now tell us about the new kit. What did Santa bring? And post more soon.
