Cokin Filters on Sigma 10-20

    Quick question,

I am looking to purchase a set of Cokin ND filters to use with my Sigma 10-20,.

Firstly will the number holder be sufficient or do I need to purchase the wide angle holder for the Sigma 10-20mm.

Secondly would I be better with ND or ND grad filters. I know I could probably replicate the ND grad effect with bracketed exposure and photoshop.

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

I do use cokin ND grads with my sigma 10 20 and they work fine but the wide angle holder will only hold 1 filter at a time.

The ordingary holder will work but will vignette as you go towards 10 mm I have hand held the filters during a shot and on one occasion hand held the camre with one hand and filters in the other  (capturing the moment and all that :)

people have used blu tack… :)

    Abit of juggling there.

I will try and avoid the bluetack, but will probably be best going for the normal holder, so I can use them with my other lenses.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don’t have a set of Cokins myself, but did a lot of research on it last year. As Pitmatic says, you’ll need a wide angle holder, or butcher a normal holder with a hacksaw. The conclusion I came to is that using them on a Canon should be fine, but Nikon users might have a slight problem with vignetting as the Nikon DX sensor is a shade bigger that the Canon.

I use a full range of cokin P with my 10-20 and on landscape you will need to start at 12mm to avoid vignetting but if you turn it for portrait style you can get the full 10-20mm, but saying that i also use blu tac if i need the full range in landscape and i never have had any problems, i think if you use the cokin adapter ring to stick the blu tac to rather than the edge of the lens or uv filter !
