Colour profile problem
-
CormacParticipant
This isn’t specifically a photoshop issue, but the colour profile of my Mac changed dramatically all of a sudden recently and I can’t seem to get it back the way it was.
I am by no means a noob to the MacOS and I can’t for the life of me figure out what has happened.
Needless to say I can’t do any serious colour correction etc. until this is sorted.
I am running a 20″ 2Ghz Intel iMac DuoCore machine under OS X 10.4.11.
Any suggestions?
carstenkriegerParticipantHi Cormac,
I am working with the same machine. Some questions:
How did you find out the profile has changed?
Are your colour space settings in Photoshop and OS the same?
Did you check the monitor under system preferences – sometimes the colour space or profile switches for no reason.
Have you calibrated your monitor with an external system (Spyder, etc.)?
You can also try colour sync utility to fix profiles.Let me know how you get on.

nfl-fanParticipantDo you use any sort of Monitor Calibration hardware/software?
I had a similar sort of issue a while back… seems like the profile was corrupt or something. I re-calibrated the monitor and rebooted the hardware and everything was back to normal.
Strange… but true.
CormacParticipantThe colour profile change was obvious as the desktop image was more contrasty and saturated.
The overall appearance of browsers etc. all looked a little off also.
I had adjusted some of the colour settings in Photoshop some time ago, but the problem seems more systemic than that.
I haven’t used any calibration hardware and I have tried to reset the profile in the preference plane but haven’t got anywhere yet.Is there another colour tool in the OS that I am missing by any chance?
carstenkriegerParticipantTry the coloursync utility (Application folder, utility folder) – I’ve never tried it myself but it should be able to fix corrupt profiles.
Or you can try to calibrate the monitor with OS (under monitor preferences).

CormacParticipantThanks for the feedback guys, I’ll spend some time at it tonight and let you know how it goes.

CormacParticipantI just thought I would add that the solution to this problem, as is usual with this kind of thing, was very straightforward.
The Universal Access pane in the system preferences has a contrast slider that can be adjusted with a key combination.
I have a feeling that my three-year-old decided that Dora The Explorer didn’t look saturated enough and decided to bump up the contrast.Problem solved and I can get back to my colour correction.
Thanks for the input all.
