Common Blue

As the weather continues to improve managing to get out a little more. From Lunchtime. Common Blue male. 20D, Sigma 150mm, Ring flash, Tripod. C & C welcome.
1 and 3 are spectacular John, particularly like the lighting in the first shot and the composition in the third.

First bit of clear weather I’ve seen in a while. The backgrounds are a little grainy. The ISO is at 800. I forget to change settings :roll: :roll:

lovely creature – Is it a moth or butterfly?
not to take anything away from 1 and 2, but I wonder if a slight angle (instead of strait on) would have been just that touch more interesting?

eas it’s a butterfly. Maybe a slightly different angle could be interesting just have to be careful with DoF. Rob I just checked the exif data and the flash didn’t fire :shock: :shock: Wierd, cause I thiught it did. For macro work the ring flash is usually the biz (see the results on the Hopper post). Supposed to be good for portraits but I haven’t tried it yet. MJ. :D :D
Pretty spectacular. Would take #1 over #2 just cos of the slightly clearer view of the head. Love the composition of #3 … might be tempted to clone out the little bits on the left edge tho.
