if the photo is staged, i don’t like it and that’s because the tight composition doesn’t allow to see more of what’s happening in the scene. it’s a headshot and you see very little of the child. If meant to be a communion portrait, i would want to see the hands and more of the dress.
2)
a more natural expression, it’s better but still a boring headshot with basic composition. high iso?
3)my pick. the white balance is off. veil and dress are purple not white.
i like that she’s not straight looking at the camera.
lovely moment. composition doesn’t feel so centered like the above
They’re all cropped, particularly #1, which was a candid shot taken against the background of an open patio door, which I wanted to get rid of as it was a distraction.. #2 was high ISO alright, taken indoors. That purple tint in number 3 might be a Picasa “enhancement”. I’ll have to look at the original again.
I think its important when shooting kids that they have some sort of engagement with you. None of these images have any emotion or connection with the photographer. If the child is not looking at you then (IMHO) they should be doing something that is funny/cute/interesting/or makes the viewer curious as to what is going on.
