I have recently atarted a design technology course and one module is photography and i was just wonderin what the more experienced people on the site would suggest as good tips for getting composition right,
the only tip i really know is the rule of thirds for landscape but if ye have any good help please suggest,
thanks guys. :D :D :D :D
Alan RossiterParticipantThere’s no point in anyone here going into rules, lead lines, frame within frame, etc. You need to go and find these for yourself through searches and particularly experience. I can recommend this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Photographers-Eye-Composition-Design-Digital/dp/0240809343
It’s a deep read but as you’re doing a design course I’m sure you want to go to these depths. Happy reading!

another book which might be of interest is
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_b/202-4017533-3837447?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Developing+Vision+%26+Style&x=11&y=19It deals with landscape photography

Also look at images by photographers and painters that you admire – dissect the images and try to figure out what it is that you like (and dislike) about them – that will help you when you’re out in the field as well.
And consider taking a workshop – having someone who has the experience critique your images as you’re making them is an invaluable learning tool. Have a look at my website http://www.petercox.ie to see the sorts of courses I offer.

scotty38886MemberEddieParticipantI woulsd recommend a book “Pictorial Composition an Introduction” Henry Rankin Poore. It’s art based cheap and covers everything you will ever need to know.
Faye MorganParticipantAllinthemindParticipantThere are alot of articles on the web about composition. The thing that is often overlooked is the pre-supposition of:
“In order for balance”…
You don’t always want the shot to balance… :)
