constructive critique

Have been posting shots here for a few years now typically to receive constructive feedback and critique on the images I post. I think in photography we always learn, there is so much to learn, from the technical aspects of an image to processing and indeed the psychology of image interpretation BUtttt I am finding that critique and feedback is becoming very vague and in a sense becoming mere comments and or personal preferences lately.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate any feedback and there are the consistent contributors to whom I and I guess others are grateful with regard to their feedback but there are a large number of users that simply don’t contribute , contribute vaguely or simply state personal preferences . There are even users who post images and rarely if ever contribute feedback.
Would love to see some initiative to promote the critique process here among users and to have them think and consider their critique ie post constructively and in a way the image poster would be able to take onboard and learn from .
BallistiXParticipantRob, I don’t think serious Critique is going to be available on this website, I used to approach this internet local as an area for Critique, but I have had to change my mindset on that issue. Perhaps you could contact Mr Cox in Killarney and see if he as a peer in photography, might Critique your top images? I have pretty much moved on the Google + and sought out some niche photography groups with recognised peers to learn insights from. They don’t critique, but I can take their insights and use those to critique my own learning and outcomes. I actually think critique is a minor aspect in photography unless you are developing a certain portfolio.
Just a few thoughts.
BrickerParticipantIronically, I just typed a long reply and clicked submit – and got an error!
BrickerParticipantSeems okay now… The jist was, your images are usually spot on, asking for comments/feedback is likely to only get confirmation.
Posts with specific questions or leading title (like Undecided) will more likely get answers to the question. 500px is good platform to float photos to gauge whether they are “liked” as the viewer just has to click one or two icons to register their feelings…… Critique though is unlikely (my experience).
I should addd, that in my original attempt I started with “I am no expert”…..which may be the problem – you know as much and seem to be out shooting more than me ( and I suspect most)
