Continuous flow ink systems

Has anybody experience of continuous inkflow systems with Epson printers.
stcstcMemberI would suggest dont go anywhere near them
if you want to save money on ink, buy a bigger epson printer, the cost per ml of ink drops quite dramatically
weelesMemberSorry, but must disagree with Steve.
I have been using a Fotospeed CIS / Epson 1800 for over a year and have had no problems whatsoever. Others I know have been using the same system on a Epson 2100 for even longer, again without problems.
I would not consider going back to Epson cartridges at any price.

stcstcMemberthe main reason i say stay away has noting to do with things like clog nossels or anything
it has more to do with the ink manufacture
epson have such a large R&D compared to someone like fotospeed, so the development that goes into epson ink is huge
so in terms of longevity etc is why i would stay away
when selling prints to customers, the cost of the ink is one of the smallest costs, so why take the risk
if you look at the costs of say an a3 print, from epson carts its gonna be approx 2 euros
so on selling that print for say 30 euros or so, the cost of ink is basically nothing, even if the fotospeed ink is say 10 cent, so you have saved 1.90 on a print.
and to me anyway that doesnt make any sense what so ever
climberhuntParticipantI have one Epson printer with OEM carts (claria ink), and another with a CIS filled with “Signal Inkjet” ink from Ebay. I sent some samples to a longevity test lab in the States.
18 years versus 18 months (to noticeable fading). Guess which one was which. ;)Needless to say I don’t use the CISS any more. But I am planning to give some pigment inks a go in the CISS, and send some samples away for testing when I do.
Rgds,
Dave.stcstcMemberwho did the testing for you dave
also we need to be more specific when discussing the fading etc
ie paper, ink, printer, testing methodology
only if the results are to have any sensible meaning
i am suprised at only 18 years for epsons, i know they are the hybrid inks, but thought they would last longer than that
PeteBedellMemberSince posting this thread I bit the bullet and got a Fotospeed dye system for and old Epson R800 that I hadn’t used for a while. It took about five head cleans to get going. I then did a print of an image that had been previously output from this printer when it had carts. On the same Epson paper the results were almost identical and this was without a specific profile for the ink and paper.
There was a slight difference in the very bright reds which were showing out of gamut but all other colours matched perfectly.
I am getting Fotospeed to send me free profiles for their range and the Hahnemulhe. They said they would also do a profile for Epson paper for free.
Black and white still has the same colour casts as it did with the cartridges but had some recent success on Hahne matt but I generally stick to the 3800 for B&W.
Basically, very pleased with it so far.Pete
